Day 15 Report

Day 15 - 26/4/08 - Downstream of Maryborough to River Heads

We set out from Jamie Mathieson's wharf which on the outskirts of Maryborough. It was low tide so it was pretty obvious that it would be running against me to River Heads. Luckily it was only 26km and I arrived at the boat ramp at mid-day. There was a crowd with placards, Channel 7, the Maryborough Chronicle and Warren Truss, the Federal member for the area all there to greet me. A sausage sizzle was going and there was even a beer.

On the way down the river it was interesting the scenery gradually change from a muddy river to a coastal area. Near the end I saw a large sea turtle really close to the kayak and five minutes later there was another one. A stingray launched itself onto the mud and flapped madly about.

A north east wind came up and I just hoped this sort of weather would hold for a week to get to Noosa.

We headed back to Glenda Pickersgill's place for a barbeque and to prepare for tomorrowís flotilla. Carol and Heidi met us there and we had a great night with a crowd of more than 20 people.
