Lake Alexandrina to Goolwa
Steve's Report: Today was a bit of an adventure. Lake Alexandrina is a lot like Moreton Bay, shallow, rough and dirty water. The wind was from the west at about 15 knots but sometimes stronger and for about an hour it was less. My route was west unfortunately. The kayak bashed up and down and it was a pretty wet trip. When I hit big waves the speed would often crash to about 3 km/hr but then between gusts and waves I could sometimes crank up to 7km/hr. I was really glad when I got to the end after 6 1/4 hours.
After I had been going on the open water for a bit over an hour I thought I could see something on the horizon. It turned out I was right and eventually it materialised into the point where the crew were waiting. It took another hour however, until we could establish UHF contact, and a lot longer to get there. It sure is nice to have that bit behind me.
