Day 27 - 8/5/08 - Sandgate to Breakfast Creek
Again the weather was perfect at the start. The smog was again very evident though came up and seemed particularly bad around the port. A westerly wind came up as I made my way up the Brisbane River. This made things a bit wet, but it did blow the smog away.
Around the airport the water is very shallow for a long way out so rather than go out round it, an hour or so was spent in water less than 300mm deep. The water was clear which was a surprise and this lasted almost until I could see the Gateway Bridge.
It was a funny feeling paddling back into a major city and port after a few weeks of relative isolation. My preference is the bush but this was quite exciting.
At 10.30am and just 26km under my belt I pulled into Breakfast Creek. Tomorrow is a rest day and Saturday is the big finish, paddling past Southbank at 11.30 am and arriving at West End at noon.
