Day 50 Report

.Day 50 - 15/7/07 - Halfway Between Brewarrina & Bourke

Steve's Report: Last night was great accommodation. Look for the big dark green building with a large sign "Accommodation". It is in the main street of Brewarina. Proprietors Tim and Roslyn Mannix are very friendly and provide great country style food and lodgings. If you want a big fanfare and five star accommodation forget it but if you want great friendly service at a good price this is for you. It is the old Brewarina Hotel (Now called the Middle by the locals because they think it is half a pub now that they don't have a bar.

Today was pretty average with a few herds of goats, cattle and sheep. A white crane followed me for about 10km. I reckon at one stage I paddled for half an hour and finished up about 100m from where I had been.

Great camp by the river tonight but it is a bit cool. Temperatures have been about zero in the mornings so that is not too bad. I reckon water temperature is about what I like a beer served at so it is cool.

Dave's Report: Today we passed some massive pumps on the way to Beemery. There are strict conditions when these pipes can be operated. There has to be x amount of metres of flow above the Bree weir and y amount over the Bourke weir.

Maybe I have been spoiled by a few nights in a proper bed. Tonight was the coldest night on the journey, for me, so far. The normally snug mattress in the back of the 4WD left a lot to be desired and I kept waking up in cold.

A top spot to camp but this is downstream
so some more bottom scraping tomorrow
A set of pumps for a cotton farm
between Brewarina and Bourke

Drying out after a bit of a mishap
Nearly got across this one but
didn't have enough run up
Oh No, not another log jam
