Day 49 Report

Day 49 - 14/7/07 - Further Downstream from Brewarrina

My wife Carol is out here with her parents. We are staying at "The Middle" which was an old pub but is now just accommodation. People here in Bre are great and really friendly.

The river seems to be dropping. If it goes down another 50mm I reckon I will have to get back on the road because I will get stuck too many times. Today had a few blockages to negotiate and there were plenty of times that I reckon I was headed in the wrong direction but it always turns around again. I passed one irrigation pump which had a suction pipe of about 800mm diameter.

Also saw cattle, sheep and some wild pigs as well as ducks, swans and other birds. The wind had dropped a bit today so after 10am it was all quite pleasant.

The log jams hold me up a bit and as you can see from the photos I have to lift the kayak up pretty high sometimes.

It will probably be another four days before I can get back in contact again but I am not sure. Hope you like the entry into the river this morning. The idea was to run down fast enough to get across the mud

More log jams Big kids at play
Nice water when it is around
Yet another log jam
