.Day 66 - 31/7/07 - Leaving Tilpa Steve's Report: Left Tilpa after a lazy start from the Tilpa pub where we had stayed courtesy of David Bristow. The water was grey and cloudy all day. The water holes are all quite long but between them there is usually a few hundred metres of sand or rocks to negotiate. I lost count of how many times I dragged along the bottom. After about 35km it was decision time. The river wandered well away from the road and each bit between the waterholes seemed to get harder to get through. I don't want to be thought of as a wimp but I don't want to get stuck with a day's march through rough ground to get back to the road either. So, after thinking about it most of the afternoon I decided to leave the river when I finished up at about 5.30pm. Tomorrow it is therefore back on the road and walk to Wilcania. There may be some water on an impoundment near Menindee in a couple of hundred kilometres but otherwise it looks like about a 600km walk down to Wentworth or thereabouts.
