Day 77 Report

.Day 77 - 11/8/07 - Tin Tin to Viewmont

Steve's Report: 46km on the river was great today. Had a slow start though with a flat tyre and an annoying bearing. The GPS says 47km in a straight line to Menindee from here, shame the river has bends in it. Anyway, apart from a blustery westerly, today was great.

There is a giant goanna about 20m away and I am sleeping on the ground but I expect my snores will keep him away.

Jonathan's Report: With a successful two full days of towing the kayak along a dirt/rocky road without puncturing a tyre or breaking anything Steve and I thought things were going pretty well in terms of equipment. However, although it was only about 20 metres to the water, Steve some how managed to puncture a tyre between the campsite and the river. It was no major drama but did end up delaying us by about 45minutes.

The rest of a day was successful and Steve paddled into Viewmont at 5:00pm. We have a nice campsite set up on the water with a cosy fire however there is a native animal lingering near. As I was waiting for Steve to paddle into camp I noticed something moving in the scrub near by. I looked over and here was this huge goanna slowly moseying along without a care in the world. I didn’t end up seeing where it went but I don’t mind because I am sleeping in the back of the Ute. It is dad's head that will vulnerable to goannas tonight but he tells me it doesn’t bother him at all. Didn’t get a chance to take a photo just video footage but we all know what goannas look like.

Steve finishing the day, walking up
the bank to the camp site
Stopped here for lunch and a wash in the
cold water. It was sort of sandy but very
soft. The mark is from the bow of the kayak
See the growth on the branch under the
water. This is why snags are
fundamental to fish life
There are some big trees on this stretch Trying to capture birdlife again
and not really succeeding
Not a bad start to the day eh?
