Day 121 Report

.Day 121 - 24/9/07 - Sellicks Beach to Glenelg

Steve's Report: Again I missed the camera so I can't share the vision of the trip. It was an easy paddle up the bay, around 43km. There was hardly any wind at the start but later it got a bit messy and wet.

On the way I was very close to reefs. There was a tiny swell and a few very hopeful boardies. God knows what waves they thought they would catch. Anyway, at on stage I saw something really strange, just like a little black sail. Then I saw fins cruising around it. I was about 500m off the shore but curiosity got the better of me. The fins didn't look too big and the kayak is 6m long so I couldn't see that I would have a white pointer problem. When I got there I found a seal cruising around with a fin in the air. When it saw me it took off. Very strange but one of life's magic moments.

It was quite an exciting time to see the buildings of Adelaide City. When I got to Glenelg I pulled the kayak up the beach, went to the pub, and had a champagne while I waited for John to find his way there. In some ways an emotional moment, in some ways surreal, but mostly the feeling is just satisfaction of really achieving what I set out to do. When John got there he had a whisky and I had another champagne for good measure.

Tomorrow I walk into the city and Amanda will arrive on the way so I am really looking forward to that.
