Day 94 - 28/9/07 - 97kms Downstream of Wentworth

This morning we went to the Koorie school in Mildura. It was a bit of a drama to drive back to there from where we had got to but it was well worth it. The headmaster Steve, had done his research and Ness, the teacher who organised the meeting had prepared her class better than any we have seen to date. Well done Ness, you did a great job. I think the kids were very receptive to the message and the idea that we have to tread lightly on the earth. For us we were just really glad we made the effort. Matthew, one of the students, presented us with a boomerang that I will keep forever and pass on to Jonathan one day.

The afternoon started late as we went looking for sample bottles at the Wentworth post office that Simmonds and Bristow sent but didn't arrive. It was then a very easy 30km paddle for me and a very tough afternoon for Jonathan. He arrived at lock 8, where I was, after dark, after being directed in via satellite phone that I gave to the lockman and after being bogged for three hours. That is his story to tell you at some stage though. It must have been very difficult for him and quite worrying but he did the job and I am proud of him.
The eclipse got a bit boring after a while and I had to wake Jonathan up to tell him the moon was back out.
