Day eight - Flat water, first rapids

Day 8Giovanni had placed my gloves on the bonnet to stay warm. The temperature was minus two and the gloves were stiff as boards. Thanks mate.

What a day through Goulburn weir though; pure magic with no wind and no current. It was like that for 30km and then things deteriorated rapidly. I am now paddling up rapids and walking through gravel beds. It is bloody cold.

We met two gorgeous people at Nagambie, Kath didn’t tell me her age but her sister is over ninety. Peter was just a bit younger.

It is freezing here in the caravan park at Seymour (we're moving the base camp every three day) and the kayak is out on the river a few kilometres downstream (north of Seymour). We had planned to meet at 4.30pm but the guys were led astray by a local farmer and poor navigation skills so did not manage to find me until dark. What a relief it was in the end.

I was buggered and didn’t turn the GPS off until we had driven out to the road. I don’t think it picked up any satellites from under the seat and when we grabbed it, the reading was 40.27km so I am going to deduct a bit and just say 38km for the day.
